The “Kobe Sucks” Chant

The night this photo was taken, I hated Kobe Bryant. A friend walked in and said to me “Ugh, Kobe sucks.” I feel I hear this almost every day, and when Kobe gets to the charity stirpe, at home he shoots his free throws to chants of MVP, as was the case on this night. On the road however it is a different story, Kobe goes to the line and shoots to the Kobe haters favorite chant, “Kobe Sucks.” This happened again last night during the Finals and just as it does every other time I hear it I think to myself, “what are these people thinking?” OK, if you hate on Kobe thats one thing, and a little smack talk is always appreciated but chanting “Kobe sucks” doesn’t make much sense. The dude shows up every night and wins championships, not exactly the MO of someone who sucks. Now I know some people who read this will say “No Trevor, they are not saying that in reference to his performance on the court, they are saying that because he, as a person, sucks.” Unfortunately, if this is your reason, it is even worse justification for this lame ass excuse for smack talk. You don’t know Kobe, how can you say he sucks as a person? Before you ask, no I am not a Kobe lover. I respect the shit out of Kobe and his abilities. I respect champions, and it seems that hating on Kobe is not a statement about performance and attitude. Today it is a trend among people who cant achieve. and hating on Kobe is trendy as shit. So jump on the bandwagon, at this point good luck finding a seat, but it should be pulling through any minute.
